co:lab settles down for a while.
We pulled it off: we managed to open our new office in the Design Center without actually scooting to Manhattan. On January second, we moved to a nifty building around the corner from our old Arbor Street location. We’ll be officially settled in just as soon as the climbing wall is installed (it’ll help with getting a fresh perspective on our work). Hopefully, we’ll be ready for an open house by the end of February. Until then, here’s our new info: co:lab / 1429 Park Street / The Design Center / suite 207 / Hartford, CT 06106 / 860-951-7782

Designers share New Year’s wishes.
Given lemons, the optimist makes lemonade, while the creative optimist whips up a game of bocce with fruits
and post-it notes. Life seems more peaceful when you minimize your wants and focus on what you already have in spades. Nevertheless, when ConnCreatives asked co:lab and a handful of local designers to share their 2009 office wishlists, some pretty neat swag and ideas came out of the exercise—complete with links. Check out the article and use the comment feature to post your wishlist, too.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt: big steps for little people.
Houghton Mifflin and Harcourt, two of the biggest names in educational publishing, merged at the end of 2007. For the past year, we’ve been helping them shape their marketing communications to get across the depth, scope, innovation and enthusiasm they bring to raising the learning bar. We’ve developed programs ranging from direct mail campaigns, to trade show graphics, and lately, brand-directing their catalog system. When we first started our business more than 20 years ago, half of our work was in R&D textbook design. And like the pop singer puts it, “Gee, but it’s great to be back home.”

co:lab gets knee-deep in the jam.
For the second year in a row, Connecticut Art Director’s Club has put on an Inspiration Jam, an evening for designers and other area creatives to get together, portfolio in hand, and share what they’ve been up to for the past year. Following the misbehaving announcement we created for last year’s event, co:lab has developed the promotion for the 2009 Jam. We’re also one of the official sponsors of the event because we are staunch believers in sharing, and in the value of building a strong design community right here in our backyard. Check the link below and let us know if you can drop by for a visit at the gathering.
8x8 : Bending Pixels : all wrapped up.
A few months ago, we wrote about 8x8 : Bending Pixels, an event we helped promote to benefit the Greater Hartford Arts Council. During that event, Rich Hollant set up an impromptu photobooth in an unused closet corner and took quick and random portraits of any guests who were brave enough to pop in for a sitting. The images are complete and ready for sharing in a book to be published in the coming months.
