co:lab fetches bones in Boston.
The Best Of New England Award Show (BoNE Show) is the big dog in the region. Every 2 years, firms and individuals throughout the six New England states submit their work for review. In 2009, the judges were unusually tough on the entries and selected only 49 pieces for inclusion in a traveling exhibit of interactive and print design. We are honored to report that 2 of those pieces were created by co:lab. We’ll be lobbying to bring the show to Connecticut so everyone here can see this progressive work.

We’re still swimming with the spirit of creativity.
In June, The Connecticut Art Directors Club held their annual award show at the Mystic Aquarium. Along with receiving the coveted Spirit of Creativity award, we also won 11 medals and an unprecedented 18 awards overall. Okay, admittedly we’re proud of these results. However, what we do would be irrelevant without the deep commitments made by all of our clients. They are our daily collaborators in excellence. To check out the best creative produced last year in Connecticut, go to the CADC Award Show site.

Welcome aboard, Constanza.
3 issues of Skope Magazine—edited, designed and published by Constanza Gowen-Segovia—also won a medal at the CADC awards. You might have gotten the opportunity to meet Constanza last summer when she interned with us. Starting mid-July, she will be the newest member of the co:lab team. A graduate of the University of Hartford, she was given the Passion Award of Distinction and worked on a clean water communication project in India. We can’t imagine a better fit with the spirit of co:lab.

Travelers wins big at its own golf championship.
For several years, Travelers has been sponsoring a nationally televised golf tournament, the Travelers Championship. Three weeks before this year’s event, they asked us to help pull together their first-ever customer appreciation program for 25,000+ anticipated customers on the grounds. While the strategy we developed was “back-to-basics keep-it-simple”, the logistical execution was intensified by the short development time. In the end, the promotion was so resonant that the sports section of the Hartford Courant declared the Travelers marketing department the undisputed winner of the day.

In 2009-2010, we’ll all be on board.
Design matters to everyone here at co:lab well beyond “the job”. Proof: Troy and Brian have been elected President and Vice President of the Connecticut Art Directors Club. They share a vision of the value of deepening the local creative community and we’re all eager to see what they achieve. Constanza is now secretary of AIGA Connecticut. She joins Rich who continues on the executive board. Lately, Rich co-chairs AIGA’s LOTION retreat: a gathering of creatives and thinkers lending insights to a cause. We encourage you to take part in these organizations. Your experience would be an asset and we’re sure your take-away will inspire and invigorate you.
